The Albynes is situated halfway between Bridgnorth and Ironbridge, it nestles peacefully in mature parkland surrounded by 260 acres of farmland and woodland, the only sounds you will hear are the occasional sheep, duck or pheasant !
The house is set in large informal gardens with two duck ponds, complete with resident ducks and moorhens. Visitors are invited to explore the gardens and on sunny days there is a large wooden table and umbrella for guests to use and admire the view or just enjoy the tranquility and country air.
The house itself dates back to 1823 when it was designed by local Architect John Smalman, for the Burgher of Bridgnorth and named after his favourite son Albinius, hence the unusual name.
It was built with stone quarried from the adjoining fields and retains many of its period features, the large hallway has the original encaustic tiles and the well worn stone door step gives an indication of the number of feet that have used it over the years.
The Dining Room is fully panelled in Oak that has been dated at around 1635, the story is that it was 'recycled' from a much older neighbouring farmhouse and our Dining Room was built to accomodate it. We have collected many pieces over the years with which to furnish The Albynes, all selected to sit comfortably with the period feel of the house.
The Drawing Room is south facing with large windows that overlook the garden and duck ponds. In the Summer it is a real sun trap and in the Winter, guests can relax by the large wood burning stove.
The house is full of character with twisting steps, alcoves and passageways but the most impresssive feature is the curved wooden spiral staircase and galleried landing that lead to the bedrooms.
All our bedrooms are unique and individually styled with handmade bespoke curtains and blinds, co ordinating throws for the beds and furnished with solid wood and antique furniture. They have a period feel but are decorated in a light and contemporary way to take advantage of the light and generously proportioned rooms and bathrooms. We use best quality White Company pure cotton bed linen and soft Christy towels and bathmats. Our spacious bathrooms are well equipped with a range of Ecossential toiletries and many useful extras such as cotton wool balls & buds.
Today The Albynes continues to be a working farm, with over six hundred acres of arable, pasture and woodland and over fifteen hundred breeding sheep.
If you are visiting Shropshire or just passing through, a warm welcome awaits you at The Albynes.
